Herbert Christ has a classical background but became a versatile soloist mainly playing as lead trumpeter in the New Orleans tradition. Through more than 40 years of experience in the field of Hot Jazz and after having played with a long list of jazz greats and legends he is able to lead the trumpet-section of a New Orleans brass-band as well as to represent the nearly complete repertoire of the early Armstrong-, Oliver-, Morton-recordings of the twenties. Beside that kind of ability he swings in smaller combo combinations or as a soloist in a big band with Basie, Henderson, Goodman-arrangements of the thirties. He has worked with: Albert Nicholas, Paul Barnes, Jim Robinson, Chester Zardis, Cie Frazier, Willie Humphrey, Alton Purnell, Louis Nelson, Little Brother Montgomery, Red Richards, Spiegle Willcox, Preston Jackson, Louis Barbarin, Emmanuel Sayles, Benny Waters, Wild Bill Davison, Benny Bailey, Lloyd Lambert, Wallace Davenport, George Masso, Warren Vaché, Eddy Davis, Freddy Lonzo just to name a few – plus first class European musicians and many more. He was the leader of the All-Star Hot Jazz Band on the International Jazz-Cruise at Sea for more than 10 years. He has been invited to most of the great international jazz festivals.
