The band already existed from 1967 for a few years then it was re-founded in 1998 mostly by the original members, after everyone became successful with other ensembles (which they continue playing with). The band consists of the very best representatives of the Californian traditional jazz scene who, besides high-quality musicianship have one thing in common and that is (sorry for the expression) crazyness (well, we should even call it idiotism at its very best). Their concerts are more than cool. The show and constant presence of all kinds of jokes is an integral part of their performances. It is not by chance that since their re-establishment they are one of the most popular bands of the American jazz festival circuit. Of course, their musical skills are featured, too: it is especially convincing that most members are multi-instrumentalists. The curiosity of their instrumentation is that Art Terry plays gutbucket (or washtub if you wish) instead of string bass, Bill Gunter plays no drums but washboard and five members of the band play the banjo, sometimes at the very same time (and very same place)! (But main banjoist Ralph Thompson can do his due, too, no problem.) Founder (and 'most spectacular' member) of the band is blind pianist Bob Ringwald who is a great singer, plays good banjo and guitar as well. He might also be proud of his Hollywood actress daughter. Jim Maihack states that he can play everything including the kitchen sink. He is good at reeds besides the four instruments listed below. Trumpet player Gary Church always has to catch a flight from Arizona in order to get to the band's gigs. The six-piece band normally hires a clarinetist as guest, this time the great Dan Levinson from New York joins the band to come to Hungary. Dan is so popular that he is featured on no less than 35 albums of different bands.
